PUBLIC LIBRARIES ENHANCE DIGITAL ACCESS
O governo de Ontário está investindo US$582 mil em bibliotecas para ajudar os residentes a terem acesso a recursos digitais confiáveis. O financiamento aumentará o apoio das bibliotecas com 122.000 dólares, que será implementado diretamente em até 155 bibliotecas públicas na província – especialmente áreas menores rurais ou comunidades indígenas.
“Esta iniciativa reflete o compromisso do nosso governo com as pequenas cidades e áreas rurais de Ontário. Estamos garantindo que os residentes de comunidades como Gravenhurst e aqueles em Parry Sound-Muskoka tenham acesso ao mesmo nível de serviços que os residentes das grandes cidades”, disse Graydon Smith, MPP de Parry Sound-Muskoka, em um comunicado.
O governo de Ontário tem trabalhado para ajudar as comunidades menores da província a receberem acesso à Internet de alta velocidade. Em 2021, o governo de Ontário/Canadá anunciou uma parceria que pretendia apoiar projetos que proporcionaram uma Internet melhor a mais de 280.000 lares na província.
Também se comprometeu a investir 27 milhões de dólares no financiamento anual da biblioteca pública e a melhorar a forma como os serviços são prestados nas bibliotecas.
Esses investimentos certamente irão favorecer os imigrantes que chegam ao país e não têm recursos, inclusive internet em casa.
PUBLIC LIBRARIES ENHANCE DIGITAL ACCESS
The Ontario government is investing $582,000 in libraries to help residents access trusted digital resources. The funding will increase library support with $122,000, which will be implemented directly in up to 155 public libraries in the province – especially smaller rural areas or Indigenous communities.
“This initiative reflects our government’s commitment to Ontario’s small towns and rural areas. We are ensuring that residents of communities like Gravenhurst and those in Parry Sound-Muskoka have access to the same level of services as residents of larger cities,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka, in a statement.
The Ontario government has been working to help the province’s smaller communities receive access to high-speed internet. In 2021, the Ontario/Canada government announced a partnership that aimed to support projects that provided better Internet to more than 280,000 homes in the province.
It also committed to investing $27 million in annual public library funding and improving the way services are provided in libraries.
These investments will certainly benefit immigrants who arrive in the country and do not have resources, including internet at home.
