Speaking without fear: updating the policies on violence and sexual harassment in universities
Aiming to create a safer environment for college and university students, both public and private, the Ontario government has invested in regulatory amendments that require updating policies on sexual violence and harassment.
The measures will protect students from irrelevant and embarrassing situations during investigations, such as intimate questions relating to background or sexual expression.
This change helps students feel safe and fearless when filing complaints. The strengthening of these policies aims to reduce the concerns and stigma of students who reveal their traumatic experiences, besides favouring the continuation of studies safely on and off campus.
