BRAZILFEST CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF BRAZILIAN CULTURE AND PRIDE
Few events bring together so much joy, culture and Brazilian pride in one place quite like BrazilFest.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the festival once again reaffirmed its importance as one of the leading events dedicated to Brazilian culture while strengthening its place among Toronto’s premier multicultural celebrations. Thousands of visitors enjoyed a program that showcased Brazil’s rich traditions in an atmosphere filled with energy and excitement. The live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup Final on a giant screen made the celebration even more memorable, allowing everyone to share in an unforgettable moment of shared emotion.
Behind this remarkable journey is Arilda de Oliveira, founder and organizer of BrazilFest, whose dedication, together with her team and volunteers, has been instrumental in making the festival one of the leading showcases of Brazilian culture in Canada. As it marks its 20th anniversary, BrazilFest continues to serve as a place where people come together to celebrate Brazilian identity, preserve traditions and strengthen the bonds between Brazilians and Canadians.
The festival featured performances by local musicians and artists who delighted audiences with their talent, along with exhibitors and authentic Brazilian cuisine, creating a welcoming weekend of entertainment and community spirit for the whole family.
Among this year’s highlights, Bahian musician Salviano Pessoa once again captivated the audience with his charisma, vibrant energy and constant interaction with the crowd. His performance kept festivalgoers engaged from beginning to end, adding to the joyful atmosphere that defined this year’s celebration.
One of the most moving moments of BrazilFest was the tribute in memory of Maria Custódia de Oliveira, Arilda de Oliveira’s mother. A devoted admirer of the festival, she always delighted in seeing how much it had grown over the years. The tribute displayed on the giant screen, accompanied by Arilda and her two sisters, deeply moved the audience and made the celebration of the festival’s 20th anniversary even more meaningful.
