LABOUR DAY: AN ACHIEVEMENT RENEWED WITH EACH GENERATION

Have you ever stopped to think about how many of workers’ achievements were made possible by the unity, perseverance and struggles of previous generations? Celebrated this year on September 7, Labour Day honours this journey and the advances in workers’ rights that have contributed to better living conditions in Canada.

Despite the progress, challenges remain. In Ontario, beyond the high cost of living, many workers struggle to find opportunities in their fields of training and end up changing careers or accepting lower-paying jobs. This reality reinforces the importance of professional recognition, fair wages and better opportunities.

In Toronto, Labour Day celebrations are highlighted by the traditional Parade downtown, bringing together thousands of workers, families, labour leaders and representatives from different unions in a demonstration of unity. Among the achievements being celebrated is the advancement of women, who are increasingly represented and recognized across different professions, sectors and leadership positions. LIUNA also takes part in this traditional celebration, bringing together leaders and members who participate with enthusiasm and pride, reaffirming the strength of unity and the value of achievements secured by generations of workers.
