September 7: Brazil’s Independence Day
Brazil’s Independence Day, declared on September 7, 1822 and celebrated annually on the same date, is an essential celebration that marks the country’s historic moment, moving from a reality based on colonization to the foundation of a national identity built on the values of freedom, justice, and equality.
But the celebrations are not restricted to the national territory; Brazilians around the world also keep alive their sense of pride in their country and celebrate their roots wherever they are.
In many countries, Brazilian communities organize Independence Day celebrations, proudly raising the green and yellow flag and singing the national anthem with emotion.
Being an immigrant has its many challenges, but beyond these, the contributions of Brazilian people abroad reveal the importance of feeling part of a community.
In addition, they show how, regardless of where they are, valuing and appreciating their Brazilian roots is important, spreading and maintaining the country’s culture through traditions, food, music, among others.
