Women’s Economic Security Program
The Ontario government is supporting the Women’s Economic Security Program by providing an investment of up to $8.9 million to support 25 local programs across the province.
The goal of the program is to help women develop new skills by providing the knowledge and training they need to gain financial independence through employment or self-employment.
In addition to training focused on four specific areas (entrepreneurship, skilled trades, information technology and general employment), the program also provides incentives to remove barriers to participation, such as transportation to and from the training, meals on the day of the training and even childcare support.
In addition, for women experiencing domestic violence, the government also provides mental and physical health support, housing, legal support and counselling.
Speaking about the program, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Michael Parsa said, “Through the Women’s Economic Security Program, we are helping women access high-demand careers, achieve financial independence and succeed in sectors that are vital to the economy.”
